Adyen is a global financial technology platform headquartered in Amsterdam, founded in 2006 and publicly listed (AMS: ADYEN). Payments online, in-app and in store run on a single system that brings together gateway, risk management, processing, acquiring and settlement. Under the heading of unified commerce, Adyen combines online and offline payments on one platform, which makes cross-channel journeys such as click and collect or endless aisle possible. For selling in person there is an in-house terminal range, plus the Terminal API for connecting to existing point of sale systems and Tap to Pay on Android. Alongside payment processing, Adyen offers analytics and financial products in the same system. Its customers include large international retail and platform businesses.
Adyen handles the payment, anybill sits on the receipt. Retailers taking payments through Adyen can issue the digital receipt along the same transaction instead of printing paper once the card has been read. Adyen stays the payment platform and acquirer, anybill stays the receipt layer. No certified live connector is claimed here.
The combination is most interesting because of unified commerce. Adyen brings online and in-store payments into one system and so provides a continuous view of the purchase. anybill can attach the receipt at exactly that point and make first-party data from the in-store purchase available. Terminal, authorisation and settlement stay with Adyen, while the record of the purchase becomes digital.
This is relevant for chains and brands that settle online and in store on the same platform and do not want the receipt to run as a separate process. Anyone using Adyen terminals or connecting the Terminal API to their point of sale system can plan the digital receipt into the same flow.
It also speaks to platform businesses that process payments for connected merchants and want their customers to get an up-to-date receipt. The audience stays sales with a physical checkout rather than pure online retail without a store floor.
At the till the terminal is often the last point of contact with the customer. If the payment runs through Adyen, the receipt can take the same route instead of sitting next to it as a strip of thermal paper. That cuts paper use and closes the gap between transaction and record. At the point of sale it also creates an opt-in touchpoint for further contact, GDPR-compliant and without touching the payment flow.
