Cologne-Rodenkirchen. Rüdiger Lippmann is the owner of Wohnen & Kochen, a store for selected products for cooking and baking in Cologne-Rodenkirchen. In Lippmann's store, everyone can find the right utensils for their home kitchen and baking corner. Since summer 2021, Lippmann has been offering his customers not only high-quality products but also digital receipts. Lippmann first heard about digital receipts through a promotional email from his credit card payment processor PAYONE, advertising a pilot project with digital receipts. For his POS system, Lippmann swears by ReLoTec. Commenting on the POS system, Lippmann said: “The POS software is user-friendly. The integration went really smoothly, and the various payment methods are well implemented.” With the additional digital receipt feature, Lippmann is fully equipped for the customers of tomorrow. How do digital receipts go down with Lippmann's customers? “With younger customers – up to about 55, I'd say – digital receipts are a big hit, and quite a few customers scan their receipt. Digital receipts are also popular for bigger purchases, where the receipt matters for the warranty,” says Lippmann. He adds that for smaller amounts, being able to skip printing the receipt altogether and simply display it as a QR code on the customer display is an interesting and, for him, welcome way to cut down on receipt waste. “Customers generally view avoiding paper slips as a positive. After all, a receipt with the card slip attached is at least 40 cm long,” Lippmann adds. An innovative business for the future. According to Lippmann, reactions to the new technology at Wohnen & Kochen have been positive as well. Lippmann says: “It also helps us stand out as an innovative business.” Some explanation is needed, though, when no receipt is printed: “Every now and then, customers get the impression that if no printed receipt is issued, we must be keeping the money off the books. That does actually come up sometimes.” Lippmann is quick to clear up that kind of mistrust in his Cologne-Rodenkirchen store and introduces his customers to the technology behind digital receipts. In his specialist housewares store, up to 95% of his customers are women. When making the case for digital receipts, Lippmann often points to the environmental factor, since digital receipts avoid unnecessary consumption of thermal paper. The digital receipt is also a welcome alternative for returns and exchanges, as it is easier to find than a printed receipt, which often disappears without a trace. One central place for digital receipts is on the wish list. Beyond being able to scan the digital receipt, Lippmann would like to see one central place where digital receipts are collected. Customers could then collect receipts in any store imaginable and use a sorting function to pick out all the receipts that remain important in the long run. anybill's goal is to deliver a digital receipt with every payment – in retailer apps, banking and payment apps, or without any app at all – wherever the consumers of tomorrow expect their receipts.
