Background
Sonderpreis Baumarkt operates more than 350 DIY stores across Germany, around 170 of which are run by independent franchise partners. With its compact store concept and focus on attractive prices for DIY and trade customers, the company has established a strong nationwide presence. Alongside operational efficiency, the company is increasingly focused on digitisation – particularly where it enhances the customer experience.
As part of its digital development, Sonderpreis Baumarkt was looking to modernise the traditional paper receipt while creating new opportunities for customer engagement.
Objective
The goal was to implement a receipt solution that would provide added value to all customers – regardless of whether they use the app or not. The digital receipt needed to be resource-efficient, easy to use, and instantly available at the point of sale. It also had to integrate seamlessly with existing systems and open up new channels for personalised communication.
Implementation
In collaboration with anybill and POS partner euroSUITE (Zucchetti Germany GmbH), the digital receipt was rolled out across all Sonderpreis Baumarkt locations. The technical implementation was smooth, and the solution went live in April 2024. At the same time, all store staff were trained and involved through internal communication channels.
Customers now receive the option of a digital receipt at checkout, which can be accessed either by scanning a QR code at the customer display or through the company’s own Macher app. This creates a new digital touchpoint at the POS, available to every customer regardless of registration status or app usage.
Voices from the project
Marcus Kienel, Managing Director at Sonderpreis Baumarkt:
“We wanted a solution that works for everyone, not just app users. The digital receipt offers exactly that – an additional touchpoint at the POS and a valuable step forward in building digital customer relationships.”
He adds:
“The digital receipt delivers benefits on multiple levels. It significantly reduces paper usage, streamlines store operations and opens new opportunities for customer interaction. The rollout was smooth, and the solution is now part of our day-to-day operations.”
Lea Frank, Co-Founder and CEO of anybill:
“With the digital receipt, every payment becomes the starting point of a digital customer relationship. The fact that it works for all customers, not just app users, makes it a real gamechanger for retailers like Sonderpreis Baumarkt. Together with the Macher app, it creates a seamless customer journey that continues long after the transaction.”
Outcome
Sonderpreis Baumarkt now offers digital receipts across more than 350 stores. The solution reduces paper waste, improves in-store processes and creates a new marketing and loyalty channel at the point of sale. Whether via QR code or app, the digital receipt provides a simple, efficient entry point into a modern customer journey.
